Dawki – Umngot River

The Umngot River in Dawki is famous for its crystal-clear water that allows visitors to see the riverbed beneath the surface. During winter the water becomes so transparent that boats floating on the river appear to hover in mid-air. The river flows peacefully between green hills near the India–Bangladesh border. Small wooden boats operated by local fishermen take travelers along the river, allowing them to admire the stunning landscape. Dawki has become one of the most photographed locations in Meghalaya thanks to the extraordinary clarity of the water.
