Local Jaintia fishermen operate wooden boats on the Umngot River near Dawki bridge. The experience is simple but magical — you glide over transparent water while the riverbed is clearly visible below.

When to Visit for Best Water Clarity
The Umngot's famous clarity depends entirely on the season. November to March offers the clearest water with maximum transparency — this is when the "floating boat" effect is most dramatic. During monsoon (June-September), rain carries sediment that reduces visibility significantly and boats may not operate during heavy rainfall. April-May is a good shoulder season with reasonable clarity.
